Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich host Italian champions Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
The Bavarians outclassed their Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16 of the tournament, while the Nerazzurri advanced to the last eight by beating Feyenoord.
Match Preview
Bayern have had an excellent 2024-25 campaign under Kompany. They are on course to win the Bundesliga title, boasting a six-point lead over second-placed Leverkusen.
Their latest league triumph came on Friday night at Augsburg, where Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane and Chrislain Matsima all earned their names on the scoresheet to seal a 3-1 victory.
The German giants now turn their focus to the Champions League, where they advanced to the quarter-finals after a resounding 5-0 aggregate win against Leverkusen.
The Bavarians completely outclassed Xabi Alonso’s men in the last 16, claiming a 3-0 home triumph before a 2-0 away victory.
On the other hand, Simone Inzaghi’s Inter ended Feyenoord’s European journey in the previous round of the Champions League. They took control of the tie by sealing a 2-0 success in the first-leg, before claiming a 2-1 home win to triumph by a 4-1 aggregate score.
However, the Nerazzurri will enter Tuesday’s game on the back of a disappointing 2-2 stalemate at Parma.
The visitors had the perfect opportunity to extend their advantage at the top of the table after scoring two goals in the first-half. But they let their lead slip after the break to suffer a 2-2 draw.
Team News
Bayern’s victory against Augsburg came at a big cost for them as key man Jamal Musiala suffered a torn muscle that is set to rule him out for the remainder of the season. Besides the playmaker, Kompany will also be unable to call upon the services of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano due to fitness issues.
As for Inter, Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries will be missing as the trio are currently in the infirmary. Meanwhile, Kristjan Asllani must serve a one-match ban for an accumulation of yellow cards.
