Runaway Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray are reportedly keen on signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane on a free transfer next summer.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Turkish heavyweights hope to lure the 28-year-old to Istanbul on a Bosman deal.
Sane’s contract at the Allianz Arena runs out at the end of the season.
However, his recurring fitness problems and form woes have deterred the record-time Bundesliga champions from offering him fresh terms.
There’s a genuine possibility for the ex-Manchester City forward to end his five-year association with the club next June.
Adding to this sentiment, Sane has had to settle for a bit-part role in Vincent Kompany’s system.
He has only made 11 league appearances for Bayern this season, including a mere five starts.
Despite languishing low in the pecking order, Sane hasn’t given up on convincing the Bavarians to hand him a new contract.
Confidence comes from Sane’s recent rise in Kompany’s eyes.
The former Burnley boss handed the German star four consecutive league starts towards the end of the calendar year.
Sane repaid that trust by netting two goals and adding one assist, perhaps setting the tone for a more promising second half of the season.
Bayern paid Man City €60 million to land the Schalke 04 youth academy graduate in 2020, so it stands to reason they don’t want to lose him for free.
It’s all on Sane now. If he can return to form in 2025, he will likely earn a new deal in Munich.
Otherwise, he can start packing his bags.
Galatasaray, known for their never-ending thirst for elite stars, would be ready to pounce.
They’ve proved capable of landing Europe’s standout performers throughout the years, most recently bringing Manchester United-linked Victor Osimhen from Napoli on loan.
Sane would be a massive coup for the Rams Park outfit, but the player seems to have other plans.
