Bayern Munich will return to Bundesliga action on Sunday as they welcome Union Berlin to the Allianz Arena for a blockbuster clash.
The Bavarians will enter the upcoming match on the back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach.
The visitors made the worst possible start after Dayot Upamecano was dismissed for a foul in the eighth minute.
Lars Stindl fired his side ahead soon before Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored the equaliser in the 35th minute.
However, the Foals restored their advantage early in the second-half through a Jonas Hofmann strike before Marcus Thuram scored the winner with six minutes remaining in the match.
Mathys Tel managed to pull a goal back for Bayern but it was little consolation for them in the end.
The latest defeat still leaves them at the top of the Bundesliga table, but Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin are level on points with them.
However, Bayern did well in the first-leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain last week. They registered a slender 1-0 success after Kingsley Coman netted a goal in the second-half of the game.
On the other hand, Union Berlin picked up an impressive 3-1 victory over Ajax in the Europa League play-offs in their most recent match.
Robin Knoche, Josip Juranovic and Danilho Doekhi all earned their names on the scoresheet to help the German side win the tie on 3-1 aggregate. They will now face Union Saint-Gilloise in the last 16 of the competition.
Match Preview
Bayern Munich
The Bavarians have been incredibly dominating in Germany in the last decade. They have won each of their previous 10 Bundesliga titles.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side are still top of the table and are favourites to win the league title this season. However, they haven’t been impeccable this term, with Bayern just ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin on goal difference. While Freiburg, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are not very from the top three and could make the title race interesting.
The Bavarians have lost two Bundesliga matches so far this season, while they have also suffered seven draws in 21 league matches.
Union Berlin
Union Berlin have made enormous progress in the last few years. They gained promotion to the German top-flight in 2019 and secured an 11th place finish in the table in their debut campaign. Die Eisernen subsequently finished seventh and fifth in their following two seasons, and now they are genuine contenders for the Bundesliga title.
Union Berlin have won 13 of their 21 league matches to collect 43 points. They have also suffered four losses and four draws but are level on points with the leaders Bayern Munich.
